Port Stephens
Port Stephens, is a large natural harbour famous for its 30km stretch of 26 golden beaches with clear blue water, located in the Hunter Region of New South Wales. It lies within the Port Stephens-Great Lakes Marine Park and is situated about 160 kilometers (99 mi) north-east of Sydney.The harbour lies wholly within the local government area of Port Stephens; although its northern shoreline forms the boundary between the Port Stephens and Mid-Coast local government areas.
It is a popular tourist destination with a strong focus on aquatic activities such as whale and dolphin watching, fishing and recreational boating and swimming.
An absolute must visit place in Port Stephens is the Stockton Sand Dunes, the largest moving dunes in the Southern Hemisphere. Sandboarding is a great way to explore these dunes and it is enjoyed by the people of all ages. Enjoy the thrill of surfing down the enormous, up to 40 metre high dunes. Tip: Don't forget your sunscreen.
Another activity which should not be missed is climbing up to the summit of the Tomaree head to absorb the views of Port Stephens and the north coast. When you reach the summit, enjoy a relaxing lunch on the bench by the lookout.
